Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning clash where the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51M spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic game drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete American average was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance since 2017.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
