Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior representative said the incident left him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
